'Vast Treatment Gap' Plagues Mental Illness Around Globe
Dear Colleagues- I thought you might be interested in the attached article from
Psychiatric News online edition describing our historic
Lancet Global Mental Health Series, Americas' Launch we did together at PAHO/WHO last month.
Many thanks for your significant contribution to the success of this event.
We plan to build on it by organizing and symposium on Access to Mental Health Care:
Global Perspectives at the WPA International Congress in Florence, Italy in April 2009.
All continents will be represented in our symposium, divided in twelve regional presentations.
We will also be considering the symposium not only for its scientific merit but also as a
- knowledge generation source on global mental health
- knowledge translation and application for policymakers, the public and
the media and
- a tool for advocacy on equity, access, nondiscrimination
regarding our patients and mental illness globally
We look forward to our continuing collaboration on this vital global public health issue. Many thanks.
