Dr. Eliot Sorel, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and of Global Health at George Washington University and a WPS Board of Directors member organized and chaired two innovative symposia at the World Psychiatric Association's International Congress in Florence, Italy on April 4th 2009

• Access to Mental Health Care: Global Perspectives
• Depression and Medical Comorbidity

Dr. Enrico Suardi, a former WPS Career & Leadership project member was one of the presentors in the latter symposium. His presentation addressed Postpartum Depression and Children's Health. Both symposia were ver well received. The ten presentors of the former symposium and Dr. Sorel will now be working on a monograph and an executive summary of recommendations regarding Access to Mental Health Care Globally to be forwarded to professional organizations, policymakers and the media."
